For those of you not already using LED string lights, they are one of the optimal choices for decorating your home during the holidays. Traditional incandescent holiday lights are more expensive to run than LEDs. Assuming you use a string of 25 incandescent C9 bulbs (now known as the old Christmas light bulbs, with a “retro” appearance and an intermediate base size) for 12 hours each day over a period of several weeks, that’ll cost you a little over $15. It would cost roughly just 21 cents to run the same string of LED lights over that same time period. What’s more, LED lights are brighter, last longer and are cooler to the touch.
As you’d expect, LED lights also use far less energy than an incandescent bulb. While that string of traditional incandescent holiday lights uses upwards of 175 watts of electricity, a similar set of LED string lights cuts that figure down to less than three watts. Better yet, the money you’ve saved overall can be used on additional holiday decorations to help your home shine even brighter this holiday season. Now that’s one way you can truly #VAlueYourLight!
