There are many things students, teachers and school staff can do that will reduce your school’s energy consumption. Here are some tips that you can follow and try to incorporate – each day, month, season or school year. Easy steps you can take any time of year: - Keep your windows closed and draw your shades.
- Report any drafts to the building maintenance staff.
- When you're replacing equipment, consider buy higher efficiency models (e.g. Energy Star).
- Conduct an energy audit. Organize classroom teams to help collect information and tie to math and science lessons to help collect and tabulate results.
- Shut off of all energy consuming equipment during school breaks.
- Turn off your computer, monitors and printers when you're not using them.
- Turn off lights when not using a room.
- Remind students and teachers to ensure sinks are turned off after use or aren’t leaking. Building staff may consider installing sensor-activated sinks and handryers in bathrooms.
