Energy Saving Tips

There are many things students, teachers and school staff can do that will reduce your school’s energy consumption. Here are some tips that you can follow and try to incorporate – each day, month, season or school year.

Easy steps you can take any time of year:

  • Keep your windows closed and draw your shades.
  • Report any drafts to the building maintenance staff.
  • When you're replacing equipment, consider buy higher efficiency models (e.g. Energy Star).
  • Conduct an energy audit. Organize classroom teams to help collect information and tie to math and science lessons to help collect and tabulate results.
  • Shut off of all energy consuming equipment during school breaks.
  • Turn off your computer, monitors and printers when you're not using them.
  • Turn off lights when not using a room.
  • Remind students and teachers to ensure sinks are turned off after use or aren’t leaking. Building staff may consider installing sensor-activated sinks and handryers in bathrooms.
