VIRGINIA ENERGY SENSE EARNS 2017 ENERGY STAR® AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN ENERGY STAR PROMOTION

Washington, D.C., April 11, 2017 – Virginia Energy Sense, the Commonwealth’s state-wide consumer education and outreach program to help Virginia residents understand how to save energy, has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2017 ENERGY STAR Excellence Award in ENERGY STAR Promotion for its outstanding efforts to promote energy-efficient products. Virginia Energy Sense’s (VES) accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. on April 26, 2017.

Virginia Energy Sense, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2010, will be honored for its stellar outreach efforts to Virginia consumers, businesses, non-profits and education institutions, efforts that included a series of digital advertisements, featuring VES’s spokesperson Jack, a talking electrical outlet who sounds like a very famous Jack many know.

VES focuses on reaching people through community outreach and social media campaigns to promote the benefits and need for energy efficiency across the state of Virginia, and informed countless Virginia residents of the importance of reducing energy usage for the environment and in their communities. VES uses ENERGY STAR tools and content to promote energy efficiency on its website www.virginiaenergysense.org.

“Since becoming an ENERGY STAR partner, Virginia Energy Sense has promoted the benefits of ENERGY STAR products to Virginia residents and our partners, including businesses, schools, and local governments, to achieve greater energy efficiency,” said Andy Farmer, manager of Virginia Energy Sense, a program of the State Corporation Commission. “ENERGY STAR has been an important partner to VES and one of the keys to our success.”

In 2015 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners saved American businesses and consumers 503 billion kilowatt hours and $34 billion dollars on their energy bills, while achieving broad emission reductions.
