As part of its ongoing effort to inform citizens of the Commonwealth about the value of saving energy, Virginia Energy Sense is educating citizens about Virginia’s annual tax holiday and how they can use this holiday to purchase new energy efficient, ENERGY STAR appliances tax free. Virginia Energy Sense, an ENERGY STAR partner, will utilize its newly designed website to reach citizens with this tax holiday and energy savings information.
August 5-7 is the Commonwealth’s annual tax holiday which provides a time for citizens to purchase qualifying school supplies, clothing and footwear, emergency preparedness items, and certain energy-efficient products without paying state and local sales tax.
During this three day tax holiday Virginians can purchase qualifying, energy saving Energy Star items valued at less than $2,500 such as dishwashers, refrigerators, and light bulbs without having to pay sales tax. And your savings can compound through reduced energy usage, positively impacting the size of your power bill.
A few examples of eligible Energy Star-labeled products include:
• Washing machines
• Air conditioners
• Ceiling fans
• Light bulbs
