Virginia residents and businesses can offset energy-efficiency upgrade costs with federal, state, and provider incentives. Federal incentives may allow you to reduce federal income tax payments. Appalachian Power – Small Business Direct Install Program

Appalachian Power Professional Energy Audit Assistance

The SBDI program provides targeted, cost-effective energy efficiency measures to small business customers and encourages owners to consider installing additional energy efficiency measures with rebates from Appalachian Power. Small Business customers participate in the Quick Energy Check-Up (QEC) to identify energy and cost-saving opportunities. The QEC and select measures are provided at no cost to the customer.

Qualifications:

To qualify, Facilities must be located in Appalachian Power’s Virginia service territory and served by Appalachian Power. Projects or equipment modifications that have not received rebates from another Appalachian Power program. Accounts must have a peak monthly demand of 200 kW or less.

Appalachian Power – Low Income Weatherization Program

Appalachian Power Equipment and Building Improvements

Appalachian Power’s Low Income Weatherization Program provides weatherization products and services to qualifying residential customers to help reduce their energy bills and improve their homes’ comfort. Appalachian Power provides funding for this program to supplement state and federal income–qualified weatherization programs.

Qualifications:

To qualify, Appalachian Power Company must be the electric provider of the home. The electric bill must be in your name and the household’s total annual income is at or below 60% of the state’s median income. View income limits here to see if you qualify.

Appalachian Power – Low Income Multifamily Program

Appalachian Power Equipment and Building Improvements

The Low Income Multifamily Program reduces energy consumption by educating residential customers about the energy- and money-saving benefits associated with energy efficiency in the home. The program targets opportunities that are proven to save energy, reduce consumption and protect the health and safety of occupants while helping to lower their electric bills.

Qualifications:

The program is open to individually metered multifamily dwellings within Appalachian Power’s Virginia territory. Eligible participants and properties qualify by meeting one of the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 66% of the dwelling units in the building (or 50% in buildings with fewer than five units) are occupied by a family unit whose household annual income does not exceed 80% of the Virginia median income. Click here to view income limits by size of family unit.
  • The dwelling appears on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-Department of Energy approved multifamily list.

Appalachian Power – Home Performance Program

Appalachian Power Home Efficiency Improvement Assistance

The Home Performance Program is designed to assess your home for opportunities to improve energy efficiency. A home performance energy advisor will tour your home, install energy–saving measures, and provide a home energy assessment report — all at no cost. The report will detail energy–savings tips and additional measures you might take to save money and energy. These additional measures are eligible for rebates from the Home Performance Program.

Qualifications:

The program is available to single-family homes in Virginia served by Appalachian Power. The home must be heated by electricity to qualify for rebates, and improvements must be performed by an Appalachian Power–approved contractor who submits the rebate on your behalf.

Appalachian Power – Business Energy Solutions

Appalachian Power Appliance and Equipment Rebates

Appalachian Power offers cash incentives for energy efficiency improvements that, in addition to reliable electric service at a reasonable cost, can make your place of business comfortable, productive and safe. You can help your bottom-line while being an environmental leader with our energy saving tips and programs. Businesses can receive up to $100,000 each for lighting and non-lighting projects, for a total of $200,000.

Qualifications:

Most non-residential customers with facilities located within Appalachian Power’s Virginia service territory are eligible for the program. Projects or equipment modifications must not have received rebates from another Appalachian Power program.

Appalachian Power – Bring Your Own Thermostat (BYOT) Program

Appalachian Power Appliance and Equipment Rebates

The BYOT program allows Appalachian Power to make brief changes to your central air-conditioner setting by a few degrees on a limited number of peak demand periods, which typically occur on the hottest days of summer. This helps reduce demand and stress on the electric grid while increasing service reliability. Enrolling provides your household the unique opportunity to earn money and promote energy efficiency and reliability for all Appalachian Power customers.

Qualifications:

To be eligible for this program you must be a residential Appalachian Power customer in Virginia, you need an approved smart thermostat that controls your working central air conditioning unit, and you must have a Wi-Fi network compatible with your smart thermostat.You will receive a one-time $50 e-gift card simply for enrolling, as well as another e-gift card for up to $25 at the end of each summer season ($5 per month for each month enrolled from May-September).
