Tell us a little about VAEEC.

The Virginia Energy Efficiency Council is the voice for the energy efficiency industry in the Commonwealth. Founded in 2012, VAEEC is a 501c3 organization headquartered in Richmond, whose goal is to facilitate discussions and share resources to advance energy efficiency throughout the Commonwealth. We engage our members to identify barriers to and opportunities for energy efficiency advancement, and to develop a strong, fact-based, and balanced industry voice before local, state, and national policymakers and regulators. Our diverse group of over 100 members includes Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, local governments, state agencies, and more, whose vision is for energy efficiency to be an integral part of Virginia’s economy and clean energy future.

How does VAEEC help Virginians reduce their energy consumption?

VAEEC helps Virginians reduce their energy consumption by advocating for strong energy efficiency policies, promoting innovative technologies, and providing education and resources to homeowners, businesses, and policymakers.

What are some ways VAEEC works locally to embrace energy efficiency?

VAEEC partners with local governments, utilities, and businesses to implement energy-saving initiatives. We host webinars and events like our Spring 2025 Forum on May 28th, 2025, highlighting best practices and success stories. VAEEC also supports local energy efficiency projects, such as building upgrades, weatherization programs, and workforce development efforts, helping communities embrace smarter energy use.

Our most recent project is the Trades Workforce Development Program. A grant initiative managed by FLIPP Inc, launched out of the VAEEC’s Energy Efficiency Workforce Initiative. The program extends a statewide funding opportunity to trade contractors of the Commonwealth. Our approach for this groundbreaking, innovative grant program aligns the needs of the contractor while simultaneously addressing the needs of skilled trades workers, specifically in HVAC, weatherization, and electrical fields, for a more sustainable, equitable energy future within the State of Virginia. Grants are available to assist businesses with Registered Apprenticeship Programs (New & Expanding), On-The-Job Training Programs, Supportive Services, and Contractor Development Assistance.

How can Virginians get involved with VAEEC?

The VAEEC is a member-based organization. We offer many types of membership tiers, including government, academic, and individual memberships. We also have five volunteer committees that dedicate additional time to our work and mission.
